The Sacramento Valley National Cemetery Support Committee (SVNCSC) participates in the Wreaths Across America effort annually. 2009 was the third year that the ceremony was held for the veterans at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery.
The Wreaths Across America story began over 15 years ago when Worcester Wreath Company (a for-profit commercial business from Harrington, Maine) began a tradition of placing wreaths on the headstones of our Nation's fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery during the holidays.
2010 Campaign:
- Over $4600 received from a food drive at California State Prison Solano. The food drive was organized by the Veterans Reentry Preparation Group at the prison. Nearly 80 thousand dollars worth of food was distributed in two days with the assistance of the prison administration, the Veterans Reentry Group, Vacaville Disabled American Veterans and the North Bay Homes Veterans Stand Down. Over 19 thousand dollars was donated from the Food drive to the North Bay Homeless Veterans Stand Down, Vacaville DAV and the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery Support Committee for the Wreaths Across American Program.
We met our goal in 2010 and placed a wreath for every veteran at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery (about 7,300). For 2011 we intend to have the same goal by November 25, 2011! You can join our effort by using this form to order wreaths. Wreaths ordered now will help our 2011 event!
