| WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA |
The Sacramento Valley National Cemetery Support Committee (SVNCSC) participates in the Wreaths Across America effort annually. 2008 was be the second year that the ceremony was held for the veterans at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery.
The Wreaths Across America story began over 15 years ago when Worcester Wreath Company (a for-profit commercial business from Harrington, Maine) began a tradition of placing wreaths on the headstones of our Nation's fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery during the holidays.
2009 Facts:
- 405 participating locations (including the 24 national cemeteries on foreign soil);
- 161,000 total wreaths placed to honor our servicemen and women;
- Over 100,000 (current best estimate) volunteers participated in the wreath-laying events;
- Over 7,500 (estimated) in attendance at Arlington National Cemetery;
- Approximately 15,000 in attendance at Houston National Cemetery - the single largest wreath-laying event nationwide;
- 1,800 in attendance at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
We met our goal this year and placed a wreath for every veteran at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery (about 5,500). For 2010 we intend to have the same goal by November 26, 2010! You can join our effort by using this form to order wreaths. Wreaths ordered now will help our 2010 event!
